Alicante Accommodation

What Type of Accommodation Can You Expect in Alicante?

Accommodation in Alicante, and in fact all of Spain, ranges from the humblest of hostales right through to five star luxury. Accommodation in Alicante is reasonably priced when compared with other European countries.

You should be able to get a no-frills double for under 30 euros a night and a single for 12 - 20 euros. If you are looking for a three star hotel then you can expect to pay upwards of 90 euros. Four and five star hotel costs vary but you could be looking at 100 euros per night for a 4 star hotel and upwards.

If you are able to then it is best to do your research online before booking a hotel. You can then do some price comparison before you visit Alicante. If however, you want to arrive in the City and then book a hotel when you get there then as a general rule in Spain, all you have to do is head for the cathedral or main square of any town and you will find a whole host of accommodation possibilities. If visiting in the high season taking this approach would be very risky and we would advise against it. If you are visiting the Costa Blanca during the High Season we would always recommend that you book in advance.

Hotel History in Alicante

‘B+B’ accommodation types used to be popular in Spain but are becoming rarer. There used to be 3 different types- Fondas, pensiones, hastales.  Fondas (identifiable by a square blue sign with a white F on it) were often over a bar and were often the cheapest type of accommodation. This was followed by Dasas De Huespedes (CH on a similer sign). Then were the more common Pensiones (P) followed by less common Hospedajes. These are getting rarer and rarer now as Alicante and the rest of Spain upgrades its tourist offerings.

Currrent Accommodation Choices

More common now are Hostales (H) and Hostal residencias. You will find that these are categorised from between 1 star and 3 stars and prices vary according to location.

Then ofcourse are hotels. Ranging from 1 star to 5 stars. Prices vary greatly.

Near the top end of this scale are the paradores. These are usually very beautiful buildings often converted from castles, monasteries and in the 60’s some were purpose built. If you can’t afford to stay at the hotel the buildings are often worth a visit anyway and they often have pleasant bars and restaurants. The nearest one to Alicante is in Javea.

They are certainly a different experience and if you can afford it I would really recommend staying in one.
