Hotel Focus - Melia Alicante
Today I have decided to focus on a hotel within Alicante and have chosen the Melia Alicante.
The chian ‘Sol Melia’ grew from humble beginnings in Mallorca in 1956 and is now one of the largest hotel chains in the world. It operates 313 hotels ranging from 3 to5 star. Gabriel Escarrer Julia founded the groupat the tender age of 21. His sons Gabriel and Sebastian now run the company.
Sol Melia has changed and developed over the last 50 years and it currently uses five ways of running its hotels. They are:
- Through straight ownership
- Managing a hotel owned by others
- Leasing a hotel
- Franchising the Sol Melia name
- CondoHotels which allow investors to buy a hotel room and Sol Melia rent it out
In addition to running hotels Sol Melia has a sophisticated timeshare operation.
It comes as no surprise then that the Sol Melia Group has a hotel in Alicante.
The Meliá Alicante hotel is perfectly positioned between Postiguet Beach and the Marina. This enviable location is at the forefront of the city. It is very close to the Edificio Carbonell building, the historical city centre of Alicante, a short walk from the Archaeological Museum (MARQ) and of-course the beaches are right on your doorstep. The train station is 1 km faway and can be walked. The airport is accessible by Taxi as this is 10 km away.
I have looked into reviews of people who have stayed at this hotel and a few are below:
“We stayed at the Melia on The Level for 3 nights during May. I had emailed the hotel a week in advance to request a room on the beach side of the hotel & this request was met upon checking in. The glass elevator gives some great views of the marina.”

“Good hotel in fantastic location
The location of this hotel could not be better - right in between the beach and the marina. We had a great sea view from our room. Reception staff all spoke good English. We had a small problem with the air con in our room dripping but they sent maintenance straight away and they fixed it pretty quickly. We did not really venture far into the town but there were lots of nearby restaurants and bars. Can’t imagine why you would stay anywhere else in Alicante.”
