The Beauty of Alicante

When I have visited Alicante I find that the narrow streets and the beautiful buildings mesmerising.

Beneath the Santa Barbara Castle is the old quarter known as the Santa Cruz area. The houses are whitewash white and the  streets are narrow, steep and more like passages actually than traditional streets. I have attached some photos to highlight the beauty of this area.

The area itself is named after the Ermita Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz Hermitage), an 18th century chapel that looks down over the town.

barrio-santa-cruz2 The streets are truly narrow in this old area of Alicante, as this photo shows. You can only imagine the problems that  are caused when processions make their way down these narrow and steep streets during Holy Week!

The area is very well kept and it is obvious that the residents are very house proud. Beautiful flowers, plantpots, balconies and tiling adorn the houses which really contribute to making this area picturesque.

Do not forget your camera because you can achieve some really stunning pictures.

If you move out of the old quarter of Alicante the newer areas are just as bright with much intricicies in the  architecture.

The colours add to the vibrancy of the town.

There are many, many more buildings of interest, beauty and grandeur in this historic town. From Cathedrals and  Museums through to official City buildings these few photos do not even scratch the surface.

Alicante has a lot to offer tourists, it is a beautiful City set right in the curve of a bay. So many tourists visit the Costa  Blanca and yet there are a number of people who don’t stop at Alicante but only use it as a gateway to Spain.

This is a huge shame because Alicante has a varied history and the City has developed Century after Century and it is because of this that it is such a captivating place to visit.

Our advice is to take a trip to the real Alicante next time you are in the Costa Blanca. Hire a car and get out and explore. You won’t be disappointed!

Our main site has loads of Alicante Car Hire tips, from how to secure the best quote and how to make sure you aren’t subjected to ‘additional’ charges by the car hire companies which can really add a dampener to your holiday.
